Scheduled Departures: Daily

ITINERARIO:

The Imata Stone Forest and Pillones Waterfalls are located approximately 150 km from the city of Arequipa, in southern Peru. Both sites are situated in the San Juan Antonio de Chuica district, within the Caylloma province.

Passenger pickup will take place between 5:30 AM and 6:30 AM, after which we will depart for the Pillones Waterfalls. En route, we will make a brief stop in the Patahuasi area for those wishing to have breakfast.

Here, we can observe dozens of rock formations sculpted by water erosion and the passage of time. You will also spot numerous viscachas (Andean rodents), mostly hopping among the rocks. From this area, we will descend to the waterfall. Once there, you can take photos and enjoy the warm weather, the scenery, and the region’s flora.

Continuing the tour, we head to the Imata Stone Forest. Here, we will find a collection of natural stone columns forming what looks like a mysterious, enchanted, and petrified forest. These formations have developed over thousands of years, creating shapes that resemble prehistoric animals, faces, silhouettes, and monsters, among other things. Their unique nature allows visitors to admire the surrounding beauty.

The site consists of ignimbrite rock formations—material resulting from volcanic deposits—comprising ash, lapilli, and rock blocks. These components are fused together, forming what are known as tuffaceous breccias containing volcanic grains of various sizes.

Finally, we will return to the city of Arequipa, spotting vicuñas and local flora along the way.
