Take a trip from the port of Puno and navigate these shimmering waters to the legendary Floating Islands of the Uros people, constructed entirely out of the buoyant totora reed, a bulrush wetland plant which grows naturally in the lake. Practice your Quechua greetings with your guide, and get ready to meet the <strong>Uros people<\/strong>, who are eagerly waiting to receive you.<\/p><p>On arrival, you\u2019ll be helped down onto dry land, and shown around one of the islands. Meet the local inhabitants, see the way they live, and learn from your guide just how vital the <strong>totora reed<\/strong> is for this community. You\u2019ll be given the opportunity to ride on a <strong>traditional reed boat<\/strong> (at an additional cost), and experience this unique form of transport normally used by the island dwellers.<\/p><p>In this modern day and age, it is rare to find a community who have such a special relationship with their surrounding environment, and with such an ingenious way to <strong>live sustainably<\/strong>.
